As I gain more awareness, it seems to me there is no god, astrology is bunk, and everything started going to hell when eMpTyV cancelled Headbanger's ball.
(I'm serious about the nontheist and astrology bit, though.)

Mon, January 14, 2008 - 8:27 AMAnd I don't mean for my statement to be an inflammatory or deprecating thing. It's just that the more I see, the less these things seem to have any relevance. -

Re: disbelief
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 1:42 AMI wholeheartedly agree. And I find it quite scary not to have Big Daddy God watching over me. And not only is there no Big Daddy, I do believe there appears to be no me either. When I have a bad day its enough to make me more depressed, but then again... if I'm nothing to begin with then there's nothing to lose! So thats good! (I think...)

Tue, March 18, 2008 - 6:57 AMWell, that's sort of what I mean. Why be depressed? I think it's convenient to have a God. It makes things comfortable. But I think god is still an invention of man, designed to quell those unexplainable fears. -

"faith in yourself and to your path you are following."

Wed, April 2, 2008 - 6:35 PM< Define God... >
Right. You can't.
I'm remembering something from Sherwin T. Wine (American rabbi) who described the position of ignosticism (yes, that's spelled correctly) as "finding the question of God's existence meaningless because it has no verifiable consequences." (I'm paraphrasing throughout this post, of course.)
And Hugh Hefner: "Religion is a myth we invented to explain the inexplicable. The universe is beyond comprehension. Anyone who suggests they have an answer is motivated by the need to invent answers, because we have no such answers."

Thu, April 3, 2008 - 2:20 AMHugh Hefner is the Master. I mean it! Look at him - 95 years old and still sharp as a razor. -

Mon, April 21, 2008 - 12:21 PMSo after continued investigation, I would still ask, why does the process of enlightenment need to be made from within a theist stance? -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: The Truth is beyond belief... and disbelief ~8)
Mon, June 2, 2008 - 10:56 AMTheraveda Buddhism, based on the Hinayana (small boat) philosophy of Buddhism, is about as non-theist as you can get, and they still aim for enlightenment. My take on it is that that is simply a literal adherence to the Buddha's saying "Ultimately, doctrine is unimportant". This comes out of the no-mind experience that in inherent in that kind of illumination. As with mystics and saints of all traditions, each has their own path, and therefore, ultimately path is unimportant, except where it would lead you astray. Namaste -

Mon, June 2, 2008 - 8:54 PMRight. So why is a theist stance necessary?
